Social Studies Updates
Social Studies- We are taking a break from regular social studies curriculum and reviewing geometry, multiplication and division during this time.
Science updates
- Science- We will take a break from regular science curriculum and cover graphing during science time.

Good morning!! I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weekend!
This week in curriculum:
In math we are finishing up learning about fractions today, and taking a short quiz over them tomorrow. The study guide will come home tonight. On the quiz students will be asked to name fractions, find equivalent fractions, compare fractions and order fractions. Then we will begin our unit on measurement. We will begin learning about linear measurement. This will include learning how to measure with a ruler, understanding inches, feet, yards, and miles. We will also learn how to convert those measurements.
In English Language Arts, we are continuing to learn about Close Reading and using R.A.P.P for constructed response questions. We are finishing up with Main Idea and Supporting Details and moving on to understanding how to compare and contrast ideas, stories, and poems. In writing we have finished up sharing our Historical Informational Stories and are going to begin working on grammar skills and writing mechanics. Their Historical Informational stories will come home with them today. We will begin to work on word study as well. We will be studying words such as their, they're, and there, and when to use them. We will also be working on skills such as how to correctly punctuate dialogue and capitalize proper nouns. This week is a B week for writer's notebooks. They should turn in on Friday with 12 entries.
This week's Events:
There is an SPTG meeting this Tuesday night at 6:15 in the library. Potential BOE candidates will be in attendance. Please wear Sappington gear to the meeting.
Blood drive is in the cafeteria on Thursday. School Store is also on Thursday. We will also have visitors from China in the building on Thursday to see how our building incorporates physical activity in the day. Flyers Fitness will be moved from Friday to Thursday this week.

Welcome back from Spring Break, and to the Fourth Quarter!!! I can't believe we only have one more quarter left of this year. It is going to be a good one! I hope everyone enjoyed their week off of school!
This week in curriculum:
In math we are beginning our unit on fractions. We will learn how to read, write, compare and order fractions. Then we will introduce them to mixed numbers and how to add and subtract fractions with like denominators. Look for flip charts later this week. New math facts logs will be coming home today as well as the weekly Hamby Homework.
In English Language Arts, we are continuing to work on close reading and constructed response questions as well as finding the main idea of poems. In writing we are going to celebrate finishing our informational nonfiction stories. They all did a wonderful job, and I want to give them an opportunity to share and celebrate their accomplishments! This is an A week for writer's notebooks and they will turn in on Friday with 10 entries. We are going to take a slight break from spelling tests until after the MAP test. We will continue to work on spelling skills, but not be taking formal tests.

Social Studies Updates
In Social Studies, We are finishing our realistic historical fiction book on slavery. They have worked very hard writing their books as well as used skills they have learned in writing and reading.

Science - In science, students continue to learn about matter. This week we will focus on mixtures and solutions.

In math, we have finished up our unit on Division and are going to begin working on Probability. We will work to predict and record outcomes. Anchor charts will be posted as the week goes on. We will send the study guide home on Wednesday, and take a short quiz on Friday.
In English Language Arts, we are continuing to work on finding the main idea of a passage, concentrating on fiction. We will add in poems when we come back from Spring Break. In writing, we are publishing our Historical Informational Books. We will have a writing celebration when we come back from Spring Break. Since students are publishing this week, we will not turn in writer's notebooks. We will turn after Spring Break starting with A week notebooks. We are also taking our Spelling Test on Friday. Tic Tac Toes are due Friday.

Social Studies
In Social Studies, we are writing a realistic historical fiction piece on being a slave in Missouri. They are creating a book about how they became a slave, their duties and how they escaped.
Science
In science, we continue to learn about the properties of matter. This week we learn about how matter is measured.
Updates
I hope everyone enjoyed their extra long weekend with the snow day yesterday.
This week we have conferences on Thursday night from 3:45-7:00. I will be sending a follow up email with your time if you have one scheduled with me. If you did not schedule one with me and you would like one, please let me know as soon as possible. We also have a half day on Friday. Dismissal is at 11:45. No lunch will be served that day.
Pennies for Patients continues this week:
Tuesday March 4 – Inside out/backwards day. Wear your clothes backwards or inside out and bring in dimes.
Thursday March 6 – Hat day. Wear your favorite hat and bring in quarters.
Friday March 7 – BYOG. Bring your own gum and collect dollars (this is a half day).
This week in curriculum:
In math, we will continue to work on Long Division Procedures. Anchor Charts will be posted soon. We will work on this skill all week and have a short quiz on Friday. Study guides will come home on Thursday evening.
In English Language Arts, we are continuing to work on main idea and supporting details with nonfiction texts. We will also continue our work on Close Reading and on using R.A.P.P with Constructed Response Comprehension questions. In writing we are working to revise and edit our Historical Informational Books. We will begin publishing them next week. This is a C-Week for writer's notebooks. They will turn in with 10 entries this Friday. Our spelling test will be next Friday, March 14th. Tic Tac Toes will be due that day as well.
