I hope everyone had a nice weekend and enjoyed the Superbowl yesterday! If you participated in the Souper Bowl of Caring make sure all donations make it to Sappington by tomorrow, February 4.
This week in curriculum:
In math, we are taking our Chapter 10 quiz tomorrow over multiplication by 1 digit. Students will need to complete the study guide for practice tonight. We will review it in class tomorrow before the quiz. The quiz will cover multiplication 1x2, 1x3, and 1x4 digit multiplication, estimating, and a few word problems. Knowledge of math facts is very important to make students successful in this unit. Because it is so important, we are going to have students studying their facts 2-3 minutes a night Monday through Thursday nights and filling out a math facts log to show how they practiced. We will then begin chapter 11 and 12 which gets into bigger multiplication problems and next week 2x2 digit problems. Also, to keep students math knowledge with word problems fresh, we will be giving them weekly math assignments with 5 word problems on each page. They will come home every Friday, and will be due the following Friday.
In English Language Arts, we are continuing to learn about Figurative Language. We will be learning about Idioms and Personification. We will also be continuing our work on construction response questions using Close Reading Strategies (Anchor Chart to Follow). Book Projects are due February 24th.

Writer's notebooks will be on a pause throughout this unit, as students will need to be researching to fill in dates and names of their topic for homework.
In Spelling, students will be getting new words today, and will be tested over them Friday, February 21st.
